Guidance :
- When you acquire foreign citizenship, you are not eligible to hold a valid Indian Passport. The Indian Passport should be presented to the nearest Indian Consulate/Mission for cancellation. When you have acquired foreign citizenship, you should not undertake travel on your Indian passport.
- After cancellation of the Indian passport, please do not discard it. Retain it – you may need it at a later date. If you apply for Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Scheme ), you will be required to present your cancelled Indian Passport as proof of having been an Indian citizen
Process :
- Just walk in to the Consulate during Consular hours – between 9.00 am and 12.00 pm - on any working day and present your passport/s for cancellation.
- If the Indian passport/s is/are being mailed for cancellation, please send a simple letter to the Consulate along with a stamped self-addressed USPS envelope for return or $ 20 for return.
