JURISDICTION

 

1.         Jurisdiction of the Consulate General of India, San Francisco:

Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Nebraska, New Mexio, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, Idaho and California.

 

TIMINGS 

2.        Applications in person for all Passports/Consular services (like issue of new/duplicate  passports, reissue/renewals and miscellaneous services on Passports, Visa, legalization /attestation of documents) are accepted between 9:00A.M and 12:00 P.M. (Monday thru Friday). No application is received after 12:00 P.M.  except in cases of emergency, such as death or illness in the family.  

NOTE: Documents submitted for service at counter are normally delivered at the counter only, after service. Return mail service is normally not available in these cases.

3. (i)   Miscellaneous services and renewal of Passports (not involving issue of fresh Passport booklet), are returned the same day at 4.00PM.

    (ii)  Cases of re-issue of Passports in lieu of expired Passports or any service involving issue of a fresh Passport booklet will be processed and delivered after 6 to 8 working days. It may, however, be noted that this time schedule does not apply to cases involving confirmations/prior approvals from other offices.

 

PAYMENT OF FEES

4.        All fees should be paid either in cash (accepted only at the counter) or through money orders, bank drafts or cashier checks (by Mail) drawn in favor of Consulate General of India, San Francisco. 


PERSONAL CHECKS, COMPANY CHECKS AND CREDIT CARDS ARE NOT ACCEPTED. If personal checks are sent the application cannot be processed and it will only delay the service. Please do not send any cash by mail as cash is accepted only at the counter. It must be noted that fees once received cannot be refunded under any circumstances, even if the application is withdrawn by the applicant or services are not provided to the individual due to any reason. For Emergency Services (Visa) additional amount of US$35.00 is charged. Such services are provided only in cases of genuine emergency such as death or serious illness in the family. The emergency fees/charges for issue of out of turn Indian Passport shall be US $90.00. Such passports shall not be issued on closed holidays. This services is not available in cases requiring pre-verification from authorities in India. Mailing charges may be combined with the fees and only one draft/money order / cashier check could be sent.

 

MAILING SERVICE

5.        Outstation applicants are advised to send their applications for Passport/Consular services only by overnight mail (UPS, FedEx, DHL, Airborne). However, applications for duplicate Passport in lieu of lost/damaged Passports are generally accepted only in (person. Such Passports should not be dispatched by mail. In exceptional cases, when the applicant is staying too far and it is not possible for him/her to submit the application in person, he/she should ensure that one of the photographs submitted by him/her has been notarized Please click here for detailed information for lost/damaged passports.

6.        Applications sent by mail, which do not require to be referred to India and can be dealt with by the Consulate normally take 10 to 15 working days  for processing. This is in addition to the time taken in mail (one to two weeks). In some cases of issuance of new Passports/ renewal of Passports/Visas, where it may be necessary to refer the matter to competent authorities in India, processing may take longer, depending on the nature of the case. Please refrain from making telephonic/fax/e-mail queries in such cases.  

7.        For return of passports by mail, please add the under mentioned charges to the fees, depending on your choice:


Indian Passport Services:

A SELF ADDRESSED STAMPED USPS EXPRESS MAIL ENVELOPE WITH APPROPRIATE STAMP SHOULD BE SENT FOR RETURNING PASSPORT/DOCUMENT FOR EACH APPLICANT.

Please note overnight mail does not have priority for the Consulate. This only reduces delay in mail. The above mentioned amount may be combined with the fees and only one draft/money order/cashier check can be sent. 

Please note that Application received at the counter in the Consulate are returned after the service only at the counter.  These are NOT returned by mail.

Please note that Application received by mail in the Consulate are returned after the service only by mail.  These can NOT be picked-up at the counter.

It is not advised to use FedEx as a return service, since FedEx is not picking up any mail from this office. The Consulate shall not be responsible for any delay on this account.

Consulate is not responsible for loss of any document in mail. Passports should not be sent out of any country by post.

8.         Please tender the exact amount in the form of Money Order/Cashier’s Check/Bank Draft in the name of Consulate General of India or by Cash at the Counter. Please insist on a receipt for any money paid at the counter and present the same for collection of Passports/documents.
